Grammar Central

Grammar Central was designed for the beginner student in mind, but all English levels should find it extremely valuable. There are currently over forty grammar categories, including such diverse topics as contractions, person, noun or pronoun, noun or verb, confusing words, and articles. Each lesson contains a simple grammar explanation, grammar chart, and a sample sentence, and students can also take a short quiz at the end of each lesson. Grammar Central will keep you busy for days, and you'll keep coming back for more because the lessons are continuously updated.

Etymology

¡¡

¡¡

Etymology is defined as a "branch of linguistics that studies
the origins of words or expressions and this section does a
wonderful job explaining the origin of many common English words
and expressions. Recent categories have included Origins of Common
Expressions, Words Created by Mistake, and Words That Change by
Themselves. On my last visit I learned that the word 'midnight' was
first used by William Shakespeare, who also created over 16,000
more English words in his lifetime. Did you know that? I didn't!

British-American English

There are many differences between British and American vocabulary,
spelling, pronunciation, and grammar, and it is often confusing for
English language students and teachers. Help is on the way at the
British-American English section, which clarifies this confusion by
offering a weekly lesson. On my last visit, in fact, I learned that
'pants' means 'underwear' in the United Kingdom, but mean 'trousers'
in the United States. I'll be much more careful on my next visit to
England!

Crazy English Test

Here is a series of valuable weekly lessons on English Etymology,Idioms, and British-American English. Students can also take advantage each week of the Crazy English Test, which contains ten multiple choice questions instantly checked and scored over the Internet. The quizzes are lots of fun, and will also reinforce what students have learned at Crazy English.
